Do you accept NHS patients?

Yes. We’re currently welcoming new NHS patients of all ages at our Shoeburyness practice. You can register as an NHS patient and still choose private treatment for anything not clinically necessary, such as cosmetic work.

NHS Dental Charges 2026

NHS dental treatment is split into three charge bands. You pay one band charge per course of treatment — the most expensive band involved sets the price, however many procedures within it you need.

Band 1

£27.90

  • Examination & diagnosis
  • X-rays, if needed
  • Scale and polish
  • Prevention advice
Band 2

£76.60

  • Everything in Band
  • Filling
  • Root canal treatment
  • Extractions
Band 3

£332.10

  • Everything in Bands 1 & 2
  • Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Dentures

Rates effective from 1 April 2026, set by NHS England. Urgent care is charged at the Band 1 rate.

Who Gets Free NHS Dental Treatment?

You don’t pay NHS dental charges if any of the following apply to you.

Under 18, or under 19 and in full-time education

Pregnant, or had a baby in the last 12 months (with a valid maternity exemption certificate)

Receiving Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit, or Universal Credit within earnings limits

Under 20 and a dependant of someone receiving the benefits above

Hold a valid HC2 certificate, NHS tax credit exemption certificate, or NHS hospital dental service patient

Bring proof with you

You’ll need to show us written evidence of your exemption and sign a declaration form at your appointment. Signing a form that later turns out to be incorrect can lead to an NHS penalty charge of up to £100 — this is a matter between you and the NHS, not the practice, so it’s worth checking your entitlement before you sign.

Common Treatments & Their NHS Band

A quick guide to where everyday treatments typically fall. Your dentist will confirm the exact band for your specific treatment plan.

Check-ups & Scale and Polish

Routine examinations and a clinically necessary scale and polish. Frequency depends on your oral health.

Band 2 · £76.60

Root Canal Treatment

Treats infection inside the tooth. Complex cases may be referred to a specialist, with a private option offered as an alternative.

Band 2 · £76.60

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Removed on the NHS when clinically necessary, based on NICE guidance.

Band 3 · £332.10

Crowns & Bridges

Includes NHS-standard materials; cosmetic alternatives can be discussed privately.

Band 3 · £332.10

Orthodontics is available on the NHS for children who meet the clinical eligibility criteria, but it cannot be mixed with private orthodontic treatment within the same course.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what people usually ask us about NHS dentistry.

How much is an NHS dental check-up in 2026?

An NHS check-up falls under Band 1, which costs £27.90 from April 2026. This covers your examination, any necessary X-rays, a scale and polish if clinically needed, and advice on keeping your teeth and gums healthy.

Can I mix NHS and private treatment?

Yes, in most cases. You can register as an NHS patient and have your clinically necessary treatment on the NHS, then choose private options for anything cosmetic or outside NHS provision — for example, tooth-coloured fillings on back teeth or cosmetic veneers. The one exception is orthodontics, which cannot be split between NHS and private within a single course.

How do I register as an NHS patient at Advanced Dental Aesthetics?

Call us on 01702 584000 or book online, and let us know you'd like to register as an NHS patient. We'll book your first NHS examination and take it from there.

What happens if I miss an NHS appointment?

Please give us as much notice as you can if you can't make it, so we can offer the slot to someone else. Missing appointments without letting us know can result in your NHS treatment being discontinued, meaning you'd need to start — and pay for — a new course of treatment.

Will I always pay the same price for a course of treatment?

You pay one band charge per course of treatment, based on the most complex treatment you need. If your treatment continues into a further course within the same 12 months, an additional charge may apply — your dentist will explain this before proceeding.

Do children pay for NHS dental treatment?

No. NHS dental treatment is free for anyone under 18, and for those under 19 in full-time education.

A note on treatment plans: for Band 2, Band 3, or mixed NHS/private courses, your dentist must give you a written treatment plan setting out the proposed work and costs before you go ahead, and you’ll be asked to sign it. Don’t hesitate to ask us to explain any part of it in more detail.
