What is a CBCT scan?

We talk to parents and children about diet, toothbrushing, and what causes dental disease — so your child’s teeth and gums stay healthy from the start. As permanent teeth come through, we also monitor how they’re developing and refer to an orthodontist if needed.

Why CBCT matters for your treatment

Accurate treatment planning

A precise 3D image lets your dentist plan complex procedures, like implants, in detail before treatment begins.

Safer implant placement

CBCT measures bone depth, width and density near nerve canals and sinus cavities, reducing risk during implant surgery.

Shorter chair time

More accurate planning upfront means greater precision and less time in the chair during treatment.

Dentist referrals for CBCT scans

We welcome referrals from colleagues who need a CBCT scan for their own patients, whether for implant planning or other complex diagnostic work. Get in touch and our team will arrange the appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is a CBCT scan different from a normal dental X-ray?

Yes. A standard X-ray produces a flat, two-dimensional image, while CBCT produces a detailed three-dimensional image of your jaw bone that can be examined from any angle.

Is CBCT scanning safe?

CBCT uses a low-dose X-ray beam and is a routine, well-established diagnostic tool in dentistry. Your dentist will only recommend a scan when it's clinically needed.

Is CBCT only used for dental implants?

Implant planning is the most common use, but CBCT can also help with complex extractions, root canal assessment, and diagnosing issues that aren't visible on a standard X-ray.

Do I need a referral from my own dentist?

If you're already a patient with us, no referral is needed. We also accept referrals from other dental practices for patients who need a CBCT scan for their treatment.

How long does a CBCT scan take?

The scan itself takes under a minute. The full appointment, including positioning and image review, is usually complete within 15–20 minutes.
